Fall is here! And that means it's time for family portraits. I've been getting lots of questions about what to wear. A big part of choosing what to wear is choosing the color scheme, and that is something that I tend to struggle with myself, so I thought I would share some pointers on choosing colors.
Here are three factors to consider as a starting point:
- Background: Is your session going to be in a wooded setting, or the beach, or downtown? Choose a color scheme that will fit with your background.
- Skin Tones: Consider how the color of your outfit matches your skin tone. If you have a pale complexion, try to avoid pale colors so as not to look "washed out." You should also avoid light colors if you have a dark complexion as the extreme contrast can be distracting.
- Simple is best: Less is more. Clothing should be free of distractions or busy patterns.
Another starting point can be whether you will wear jeans or khakis (or something different). Decide on one and build upon that.
