I Heart Faces is an online photography community that hosts weekly photo challenges. This week the topic for the challenge is "Jump." I don't always do these challenges, but this week they are giving away a new lens that is worth $1500, so I decided it was worth my time. This is my entry.
In honor of Father's Day I asked my Dad to let me take a few photos of him. This one is my favorite. Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there, but especially to MY Dad! I love you Dad!! I found this oldie but goodie while looking through some old family photos. (That is me with Dad when I was about 1 year old) And this is a photo of my husband hanging out with his son on Father's Day! Every morning when I wake up, every lunch hour, and every night when I return from work my sweet Cody is waiting to greet me with love and affection. I can't even begin to tell you how much he brightens my day and how often he makes me smile.
Pets make us happier and healthier just by being in our lives. Research has shown that owning a pet can help lower blood pressure, lessen anxiety, and boost our immunity. Pet owners also have less occurrence of chronic conditions and symptoms of depression. It may be only coincidence, but my blood pressure had improved at my last doctor visit. Pets also fulfill our social needs, giving us greater self-esteem, and a sense of belongingness and meaningful existence. I can definitely say that Cody puts me in a better mood after a bad or stressful day. Now you tell me, can you look at this sweet face and NOT smile? :) Fall is here! And that means it's time for family portraits. I've been getting lots of questions about what to wear. A big part of choosing what to wear is choosing the color scheme, and that is something that I tend to struggle with myself, so I thought I would share some pointers on choosing colors.
Here are three factors to consider as a starting point: - Background: Is your session going to be in a wooded setting, or the beach, or downtown? Choose a color scheme that will fit with your background. - Skin Tones: Consider how the color of your outfit matches your skin tone. If you have a pale complexion, try to avoid pale colors so as not to look "washed out." You should also avoid light colors if you have a dark complexion as the extreme contrast can be distracting. - Simple is best: Less is more. Clothing should be free of distractions or busy patterns. Another starting point can be whether you will wear jeans or khakis (or something different). Decide on one and build upon that. Looking back now I realize I didn't fully comprehend everything at the time. I remember watching bits and pieces of the coverage on TV at work. I knew it was a big deal, but I didn't know anyone in New York, had never been there.... so my day to day life was relatively unaffected. Over the years, I have grown to understand the huge impact of these tragic events on our nation. Watching it all over again now, I feel so much more emotion. September 11 is also my Dad's Birthday. So while we celebrate his birthday every year, we also remember that sad day. My Dad took this photo at Cannonsburg today. It's called The Healing Field. 3200 Flags. Each represents a victim. It's eye opening to see them all lined up like this. I am so grateful for our freedom, and all the brave soldiers who protect our great country! Thank you for your service! |
